Since October 2025, residents and activists have been demonstrating for the immediate closure of the refugee camp at Schlachthofstraße 3—5 in Hamburg-Harburg. Noise, overcrowding, lack of privacy, no autonomy, a ban on visitors, and other structural problems are a daily reality at the site.
Although the Senate has announced plans to close the camp, the lease agreement with the landowner, “Arelis Estate Service GmbH,” was extended until September 2028. Located in an industrial park—out of sight for a critical civil society—Hamburg’s most disastrous camp is set to remain. This is untenable!
We demand:
1. immediate closure of camp Schlachthofstraße
2. decentralized and equitable housing of its residents
Residents, who are awaiting their asylum decisions and could be transferred to the Dublin deportation center at any moment, put themselves at risk when they advocate for better living conditions. Therefore, it is the responsibility of those who are not directly affected to show solidarity and fight for the rights of refugees!
